Barbados’ 5 weeks festival of the summer is the Crop over festival. It is one of the most colorful and popular festivals of the Land. Originated in the 1780’s at the time when this land was one of the top producers of sugar. This is the reason why the celebration took place, with the end of the season of the sugar production, hence the Crop over celebration.
There are a number of delightful activities at the Crop over Festival that will take place on Jul 29 to Aug 2, 2010:
Commencing with the traditional delivery of the Canes with the crowning of the Queen and the king of the Celebration.
There are many stalls at the market of the Bridgetown, which sells beverages and food, with local crafts and arts. Moreover, there are tuk bands and calypso music as well.

Photographic and art exhibitions as well as Folk concerts are also part of this great celebration, representing the art and culture of Barbadian history.
Calypso is one of the major parts of the festival. The calypsonians are planned into –tents- these tents are funded by the businesses of Barbados’. Calypsonians participate for numerous titles and prizes, as well as the March Monarch, the Party Monarch, and the Pic-O-De-Crop.
