Festivities in St. John Carnival | Parade on July 4th

St. John in Virgin Islands gives travelers and tourists a quiet escape from the usual hustle and bustle of the city. But come the month of July, St. John transform into a small island of festivity in celebration of the St. John Carnaval. This celebration started in July 3, 1848, as a commemoration of freedom from slavery and the fight for independence of the locales of Virgin Islands.
St. John Carnaval is month long celebration. The usual festivities include musical performances and live entertainment from top singers, bands and musicians of Virgin Islands. Guest would surely be delighted with some Caribbean music with a touch of reggae, soca and rhythm and blues. Along with the celebration, there would be a lot of signing and dancing. Tourists and the locales can jump in the fun by joining in carnival parades on the streets of St. John.
Aside from the fun entertainment and music, St. John carnival is also known for the great village food fair. The fair would highlight different locale cuisines that are delectable and uniquely Virgin Islands. Tourists can dine in restaurants that are sure to give away special menu packages and discounts in celebration with St. John Carnival. Along with the great fun and entertainment, there are also fireworks that would set the guests on fire with fantastic and unbelievable display of light and sounds.
The Saint John Carnaval usually kicks off in the late days of June and culminates in the 4th of July. The culmination event that everyone is waiting for is the 4th of July Carnival parade where the streets of Saint John is lined up with fun and vibrant colors that would surely delight the kids and the young at heart. The Cruz Bay is one of the areas that would be highlighted by the event. Although Cruz Bay has a smaller population that the rest of the islands in St. John, it is one of the center areas of the event.
Some of the events to watch out for this year’s St. John Carnival are the traditional parades, beauty pageants, music concerts, and cultural fairs. The famous Calypso Festival would also take place during the carnival this year. People are sure to flock in Cruz Park where the usual food fair would be held. For the locales, the traditional boat races would also be something exciting to watch out for. Just like last year, it is expected to have the celebration officially open with a Festival Ball and then a concert following right after the ball. In the following days, there are also mini-fares to delight the guests.
