St. Martin carnival- gear up to soak in the madness

 


Carnivals bring special joy not just to the nation but to millions of carnival revelers who travel round the world to be part of the vivid celebrations. St. martin/St. Marteen carnival is one such spectacular celebration which is a special treat for all those who gather to attend it. Carnival 2010 is scheduled for April 15th to May 2nd, 2010 and you sure can expect that fun would be the main idea during the entire time. The little island literally transforms into an adventure paradise and fine mix of parades, music- making and dancing takes over. Parades are planned so that all can have equal fun- a kid’s parade, a parade centered around teenagers and a gigantic parade on the final day of celebrations.

Carnival preparations happen round the year with skilled craftsmen working on the sequined costumes and the steel bands getting their music ready which forms the soul of all events. Old and young fill up the street and trucks with enormous sound systems parades the city. The Carnival Village is the place where everyone wants to be and enjoy the specially prepared assortment of events and concerts. Traditional burning of King Momo and the J’ouvert implies that St. Martin carnival celebrates not just life but also traditions which are so important for existence.
