Colors of Mardi Gras: The origin and meaning of Green, Purple, and Gold colors in Mardi Gras.

February 3rd, 2012 No comments

In the year 1872, Rex selected the colors of Mardi Gras in an official way. In that year, the Rex Parade Symbolism of Colors theme gave meaning to these specific colors. They said that the purple is a symbol of justice, green is the symbol of faith, and Gold is the symbol of power.

It will be very interesting to note that the colors of Mardi Gras also influence the selection of school colors for the purpose of arch rivals of Tulane University and Louisiana State University.
When the LSU was making a decision on the colors, the New Orleans shops had stocked up on materials of green, purple, and gold colors for the season of Mardi Gras. It has been decided upon gold and purple by LSU, and it brought much. Tulane brought the only color, which is remaining. Then, Tulane brought the green color. (However, Green and Blue are their colors)
Therefore, you must have to remember the color you have to wear at the time of Mardi Gras season. Green, purple, and gold are the colors, which you have to wear during the time of Mardi Gras, whenever you are not in the costume.
