The Annual New York Labor day carnival: a feast for the visitors

The annual New York Labor Day carnival in its latest version is a colorful experience for the visitors. With the various Caribbean bands giving a taste of Caribbean music to the spectators, all are eagerly looking forward to the Great parade on Monday 7th September. The Dimanche Gras at the Brooklyn museum on Sunday evening saw all swaying to the enthralling performances by the Caribbean bands-Tigress, The Mighty Sparrow, along with the rhythm dancers and king and queen of the band with the performances continuing till late night.

The predawn festival on carnival day J’Ouvert had people in colorful costumes, dancing on the steel bands through the streets of Brooklyn. It was a great spectacle with costumes inspired from everyday life, thumping music and people carelessly dancing in the early hours of the day of the much awaited parade. This was a befitting start to the colorful and mesmerizing parade that is to follow this colorful madness.

The New York Labor Day parade which begins at 8:00 am will proceed through Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue to the Flatbush Avenue extension. The parade will have masquerades, moko jumbies and floats with the live performers and the sesame flyers in their colorful and vibrant costumes performing on this year’s theme, “Dazzle” a chromatic tribute to the entertainment industry. With great bands and Caribbean food stalls, the parade has something for all. With millions adding to the last year’s attendance record, the parade this year will be bigger and more dazzling than ever.
