Fun and enjoyment at DC Caribbean Carnival 2011

DC Caribbean Carnival will be held in Washington DC. The traditional Carnival parade will be held on June 25, 2011 and the festival will be held from 25-26 June, 2011. The aim of the carnival is to improve cross-cultural programs in Washington. The youth get an opportunity to know art, craft, food, dance and culture of the Caribbean.

On the opening day, there is a parade which features calypso as well as steel drum bands. The parade features masquerade groups wearing elaborately feathered costumes representing various themes. The colorful parade ends in ‘DE SAVANNAH’ marketplace where there is a display of food and craft along with entertainment. There are a lot of festivities. One can enjoy delicious foods, colorful stalls displaying art and craft.

There are various types of musical shows. Many Caribbean bands take part in the carnival and Caribbean music as well as Soca music can be enjoyed. There are live concerts, late night concerts and DJ parties. Shows by Soca artists and performers and stars can be enjoyed. Reggae and rock music and vocal stage shows are held. A large number of revelers attend the annual Caribbean style celebration, enhancing cross-cultural perceptiveness. The sparkling annual event can be enjoyed with the whole family.

Caribbean carnivals are the best place to enjoy the true festivities of a carnival and witness the calypso bands, some of the best International Caribbean talents and get to bond with all its endearing aspects. The DC Caribbean carnival 2010 is to be held on June 26th and June 27th and has many waiting in anticipation to be a part of the entertaining festivities. The purpose of the carnival besides imparting entertainment is to equip the young Caribbean of the culture, crafts and arts. The parade is scheduled for Saturday June 26th and will lead to an international marketplace which is termed as DE SAVANNAH and features food, entertainment and craft.

The DC Caribbean carnival festivities will span on June 26th and June 27th and the colorful parades along the George Avenue will sure see the millions of revelers who make it a point to attend this annual celebration. The carnival will be officially launched with a glorious fete on Saturday April 3rd and it will be the perfect base for the carnival fever to start rolling. With music from the top DJs the atmosphere will sure be rocking and leave everyone waiting eagerly for the grand parade in June, after all carnivals are the best manner to have loads of pure fun.

DC Caribbean Carnival Gets Started on June 27

The DC Caribbean Carnival is getting more popular every year in this part of North America- Washington DC. The carnival was first launched in the year 1993. It was one of the prime events where Caribbean bands from all over the city participate and take their chance at stardom. The first Caribbean carnival of 1993 started with only nine bands performing on the stage. With over 100,000 guests on its first year, the Caribbean carnival grew in enormous proportions and the crowd grows bigger every year.

Participating bands of the DC Caribbean Carnival are exclusively open to local bands and groups of the DC Metropolitan Area. The groups are actually representatives of every Caribbean country. Because of its uniqueness and the different rhythm and flavor of Caribbean music, the carnival had a lot of support from the local government as well as the residents of DC. Every year, the DC Caribbean Carnival gave way to the followers and fans of Caribbean music. Companies and private business men also show their support for this grand carnival with their sponsorship and donations.

This year, the DC Caribbean Carnival would be held for two days, on June 27 and on June 28. The first day would be kicked off at 11 in the morning with the Caribbean parade at the Georgia Avenue and Missouri Avenue. The event would be followed by Festival in The Park of Banneker entitled “DE SAVANNAH”. Here, guests can listen to the sound of Traffic Jam with Eddie Charles, Shayne Bailey and Sean Caruth. Other performers include Iwer George & TC, Tizzy, Ashe, Patch, and Dexter Keane & DK21. Famous DJ’s of DC would also join in the fun with great music mix from DJ Teerex, DJ Spyda and Shiloh Intl.

The DC Caribbean Carnival would continue until Sunday, June 28. This day would feature a concert along with family day events. Attendees would get to listen to the sounds of The Queen of Soca, Alison Hinds, Kenneth Salick and the The 2009 Chutney/Soca Monarch. The live performance of Rafrechi is also something you should watch out for. Other live entertainment would be coming from Carl Malcolm & The Positive Vibrations Reggae Band and the DJ’s of DC. The Sunday event would be hosted by John Blake and Tony Carr. Admission is $10 for each of the events.
